On 5 October, 1921, a de Havilland-4 was the first aircraft to ever set down in Central Australia. The intrepid adventurers, Briggs, Birtles and Bailey, followed the Overland Telegraph Line to their ultimate destination, Alice Springs. Overcoming challenges, and picking up a love letter along the way, they then had to wait for the camel train to bring fuel for their return journey.
